We think of loss of merchandise as the main problem. Often they destroy more property than they take.  Fixing this stuff is half the nightmare.

When bollards are not yet installed, smash and grab burglars sometimes steal a car, and drive it right through the security gates.

They tend to go for larger SUV's and often enter in reverse. We have seen some very luxurious cars being used in this way, maybe as a way to heighten the experience.

At a moral level we this as the ultimate insult to a community.

Hooking a chain to pull a security gate only adds half a minute or so. Never install gates on the outside, so that your alarm can detect the break-in as early as possible.

Whether they disable the alarm or not, by the time the crooks are inside,  they are invested in the crime.  They will destroy anything, using any tools necessary.

Certain crimes carry consequences well beyond the owner of the business. Guns, medicine even tools can be in-turn feed a next round of crime.  Defeating smash and grab as a viable burglary method needs to be addressed by everybody, specially government.
